Serita D. Beamon was appointed Superintendent of Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) on March 1, 2021. As a result, she historically became the 1st woman Superintendent, 1st African American Superintendent, and 11th Superintendent overall for the district. Mrs. Beamon is a local native of Seminole County, having attended SCPS elementary and middle schools. She graduated from Lake Mary High School. After high school, Ms. Beamon attended Stetson University and earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science. Mrs. Beamon received her Juris Doctor, with honors, from Florida State College of Law, where she was awarded the Virgil Hawkins Fellowship of academic achievement.

After serving as an attorney in Georgia, Mrs. Beamon practiced law in Florida, and in 2004, she joined The Legal Services Department for SCPS. From 2004-2021, her practice was focused exclusively in the area of education law. In 2011, she was in the first class of Florida attorneys to be recognized as board-certified education law specialists by the Florida Bar. 

As in-house counsel for SCPS and the School Board, she served on Superintendent Dr. Walt Griffin's leadership team as a Cabinet Member. There, she assisted and provided guidance to the Superintendent, School Board, and Administrators on the day-to-day operations of both the Instructional and Business-side of the district.

During the first three years of her Superintendency, Ms. Beamon has prioritized the following work to ensure students are provided with a first-class, high-quality education that leads to graduation. To ensure that students graduate with a meaningful diploma that allows students to move on towards post-secondary education in college or career-and-technical programs, enlist in the armed services or in local police/fire forces, and or successfully enter the workforce, Ms. Beamon’s primary areas of focus include: 

• Ensuring all students have the tools and resources they need to be successful.
• Closing the achievement gap through customized educational pathways for all students.
• Supporting advanced educational opportunities (Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment) for all SCPS subgroups, including English Language Learners (ELL), and students with disabilities and exceptionalities. 
• Continuing Early Learning Programs that foster childhood development and school readiness.
• Providing Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities for students, including a major renovation (approximately $3m) of Seminole High’s Health Academy, offering Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses at Crooms Academy and Hagerty High School, and beginning a Cyber Security Program at Lake Howell High School, called CyberHawks.
• Expecting high-quality teaching to be delivered every day, for every student, in every classroom.
• Providing teachers and instructional staff with relevant training, support programs, and curriculum resources.
• Developing programs to recruit and retain educators and administrators.
• Building relationships among community stakeholders through partnerships with local businesses, government, faith-based groups, and constituents.

Mrs. Beamon and her husband, Demetry, have two sons who also attend SCPS schools.
